Job Summary: The Office of Advancement seeks a research analyst to work closely and collaboratively with the Director and Assistant Director of Research and Relationship Management, supporting a comprehensive prospect identification and intelligence program in support of the mission and ambitious future of Claremont McKenna College (CMC). Reporting to the Director of Research and Relationship Management, the Research Analyst will produce high-volume research deliverables to support an advanced level of constituent engagement. This position is responsible for important support to advancement leadership and the major gifts team by conducting research tailored to fundraising initiatives at CMC.


Job Duties: Reporting to the Director of Research and Relationship Management, the Research Analyst works collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities: 70% - Serve as a vital resource for the College by providing high volume strategic financial and biographic research and analysis on foundations, corporations, and individuals to advance philanthropic support and the mission of the College. Respond in a timely manner to research requests utilizing paid subscriptions and standard public information sources through advanced searching techniques. Create highly customized and strategic profiles that helps build relationships, strengthen engagement, and increase giving. Analyze individual wealth indicators to determine overall financial capacity and solicitation potential. 20% Work collaboratively with the Director on proactive identification efforts, including the verification and dissemination of wealth screening and predictive modeling data, along with independent financial/demographic analysis and formulation of capacity evaluations, to increase the pool of major philanthropic prospects. 10% Assist with special research projects, as assigned, including keeping abreast of developments in the field by attending training sessions/conferences, as budget permits, and by networking/communicating with other research colleagues through membership in state and international prospect research professional organizations.


Job Requirements: EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in nonprofit research or related field is required; preferably in a nonprofit and/or higher education setting. Prior experience providing high-volume research during a campaign is highly desirable. Experience utilizing standard industry resources, including previous work verifying and disseminating wealth screening data, is a plus. Proficiency utilizing the Microsoft Office suite, especially MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Familiarity working with CRMs (CMC uses Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge) and working in Blackbaud's ResearchPoint platform is highly desirable.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Ability to analyze and synthesize financial, philanthropic and affinity data on individuals, corporations and private foundations to assess prospects, giving capability, philanthropic tendencies, and appropriate potential solicitors. Ability to perform in-house data mining and a strong understanding of statistical modeling concepts. Ability to determine relevant and strategic information and how to analyze the data to support prospect development. Proficiency in synthesizing material from multiple sources into a coherent and accurate presentation. Understanding of a donor's rights and the distinction between public and private information. Knowledge of the code of ethics by which prospect research and other fundraising professionals operate. Understanding of information management in a database structure, particularly the ability to manipulate and retrieve data. Skill in managing multiple high priorities, individually and for a team, with great attention to detail and execution. Use exceptional organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail. Demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and promote partnership, while also working independently. Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic discussions. Ability to multi-task and work well under the pressure of deadlines and competing priorities. Ability to display a positive attitude; work cooperatively with others; and receive and respond appropriately to constructive criticism. Must understand and communicate the mission and history of the College's liberal arts environment. Demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with excellent/strong verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and customer service skills. Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of projects/tasks/duties/assignments. Operate computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional software, including Raiser's Edge or equivalent CRM platform, free and subscription prospect research resources, menu-driven databases, and social media networking sites. Use assigned technology/devices/equipment to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality. Handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, good judgment, courtesy and tact while working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Prioritize and perform multiple projects/tasks, meet deadlines/timelines, respond to others in a timely manner, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College with a high standard of integrity and ethics, in support of the College's strategic vision and the division's/department's annual goals.
