Job Title: Manager, Research and Prospect Management

Job Summary: The Manager, Research and Prospect Management carries out best practices for prospect management and donor research. Reporting to the Associate Director, Research and Prospect Management, the Manager conducts essential research to support the Development team in reaching their annual revenue goals. The Manager has experience working with relational databases and is detail oriented with an aptitude for getting the best results to reach fundraising objectives. The Manager enjoys conducting research, analysis, and working independently while being part of a larger team. The Manager must also be able to identify and adapt to shifting priorities, be flexible and resourceful, and exercise professionalism and discretion in working with confidential information.


Job Duties: Develops analytical strategies, tools, and ad-hoc reports to support portfolio management and analysis, prospect identification and assignment, and pipeline development and proposal activity. Maintains accurate information on prospects and donors to assist fundraisers in developing appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.  Create concise, accurate, and timely research products using biographical information, financial data, news, and philanthropic history. Conducts online research and utilizes research tools including LexisNexis, iWave, WealthEngine, and Foundation Search to assess donor capacity and affinity. Examines and analyzes results of wealth screenings to identify donors with potential to make major gifts. Ensures research information is entered into The Raiser's Edge database. Maintains an expectation of excellence in both written and verbal communication, as well as a dedication to superior customer service with an emphasis on relationship building. Continuously develop fundraising knowledge and professional skills through trainings, webinars, conferences, and workshops.


Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree or equivalent, 3-5 years of prospect research, prospect management, and prospect identification experience or related work experience. Demonstrated ability to think critically, analytically and efficiently to initiate and perform complex analyses with a thorough attention to detail and follow through. Ability to interpret, analyze, and summarize biographical and complex financial data.  Ability to leverage emerging technology to develop new ways to identify potential donors.  Proficiency using a relational database, preferably The Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising specific software system. Familiarity with fundraising best practices and familiarity with the field of philanthropy.  Ability to take initiative and work independently. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Strong attention to detail and business writing skills. Strong project coordination skills, with an ability to maintain multiple projects simultaneously. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor. Must be proficient in basic software programs (MS Office, Google Applications). Maintain the professional and ethical standards set forth for the field by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
