Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Director, the Assistant Director of Constituent Research & Development performs duties in all areas of the prospect management and research operations, supporting pipeline and portfolio development via a client-based system. The research office is responsible for providing in-depth background information on a wide variety of constituents for use by the Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Deans, faculty, and the Development department. In collaboration with the director, incumbent will help develop and manage prospect management process guidelines, regularly monitoring development activity for continuity and compliance. Work with the research team to partner with and train frontline fundraisers on the tracking and management of their activity in Raiser's Edge and ensure appropriate use of prospect research information to inform development strategies and report on information regarding fundraising progress/activity. Interpret information to advise senior leadership and other managers on fundraising performance. Additional responsibilities include initiating proactive research, data mining, and analytics that will produce a pipeline of prospects for future qualification, cultivation, and solicitation, in support of UC Riverside. This position is critical to the success of UC Riverside's overall fundraising efforts, providing services to the entire campus. By identifying, prioritizing, and focusing the efforts of Development staff on well-defined pools of prospects, the research office enables efficiency in fundraising and ensures philanthropic goals are met.
Job Duties: - Functions as a lead and consults with fundraising staff to oversee multiple research initiatives of high visibility and impact. Develops processes and methodologies to carry out complex research projects. Understanding of prospect moves management as well pipeline development.Build robust portfolios by ensuring quantity and quality, as well as prioritizing towards major gift opportunities. Monitor and manage processes associated with on-going relationship management, including building and maintaining fundraiser portfolios, defining and implementing methods to evaluate and drive portfolio productivity, monitor key measures of fundraiser activity, and help to ensure the effective and timely capture of relationship management data (25% of time). - Provides highly specialized prospect research and analyses using a variety of sources and strategies synthesizes large amounts of data for development planning and decision making.Conduct research and categorize prospects and donors in terms of interest and capacity and determining when they should be moved to active prospect lists for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Assigns prospects by interest and affinity, manages movement through the pipeline, and assists development officers in planning strategies and priorities (25% of time). - Develops and manages research programs, campaigns, goals and strategies. Recommends elements to include in annual plan. Resource for staff in development of new programs or initiatives. Design, enhance, and implement prospect management systems and related reports; regularly help determine next steps with prospects and manage solicitation progress. Coordinate monthly prospect review and management meetings, monthly portfolio check-ins, and quarterly metrics reviews across units to maximize fundraising results (10% of time). - As a technical leader, provides guidance to management on ways to improve department processes for identifying and tracking prospects and donors. Regularly serves on committees for broad-based initiatives. Manage the prospect management system and database to assure they are current and properly coded. Coordinate with staff programmers and/or analysts in the use and deployment of software systems and database enhancements (10% of time). - Assess and analyze current Development structure and needs, continually identifying opportunities to streamline business processes and improve communication through the use of available tools and reporting. Create and maintain policies and procedures supporting best practices, ethical and professional research standards, leveraging technology, data integrity and data security (10% of time). - Provides business process recommendations to Development and other related staff on the effective use of Raiser's Edge, SharePoint, and other on-demand tools in order to utilize their fullest potential (10% of time). - As a technical leader, provides guidance to management on ways to improve delivery of research services. Functions as a resource on challenging or complex data and issues. Refine the prospect management and tracking system design to adequately support the management and tracking of prospects, proposals, and donors. Monitor and make recommendations for system maintain and improvement (5% of time). - Develops and manages research related data quality measures, update/append strategies and biographical verification. Serves as a resource to technical/system/data teams for research related data quality. Identify goals and key performance indicators for portfolio review, portfolio management and pipeline services. Track progress to inform outcomes (5% of time).
Job Requirements: Degree Requirement: - Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required). - Secondary degree in related area (Preferred). Experience Requirements: - 6 - 10 years of related experience (Required). - Minimum of 3 years in prospect research at a major university (Required)
