Job Summary: Reporting to the Assistant Director of Prospect Research, the Prospect Researcher is a key member of the Prospect Research and Management Team is responsible for all aspects of prospect research and management for assigned Development staff. The primary responsibilities are to identify prospects, build prospect pools for identified priorities, and assist in the proper management of prospect portfolios for assigned fundraisers. The Prospect Researcher will facilitate this process through the development of rating systems, management and oversight of data, production of lists for staff and volunteers, focused research reports and maintenance of active files on the current cultivations and solicitations of assigned Development staff. This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. Initial review of applications will begin on December 10, 2018. Job Duties: Research: Partner with major gift development directors in identifying prospect pools and research strategies for major gift opportunities. Formulate, develop and implement proactive research strategies to identify new major gift prospects for capital campaign, major giving, planned giving, and leadership annual giving strategies. Conduct in-depth biographical and financial research executing recognized prospect research procedures, utilizing electronic databases and online reference resources, library and printed resources as needed. Perform analysis on and create detailed reports on prospect information and collected research. Develop and maintain proficiency with prospect research, development analytics and data visualization tools. Train assigned development staff in proper use and application of tools. Prospect Management: Provide oversight and support for the management of major gift prospects for assigned Development staff through the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycles. Assist Development staff in maintaining best practices in prospect management through periodic portfolio review sessions. Take an active role in the development of appropriate prospect strategies with assigned prospect managers and ensure timely implementation of prospect management functions. 
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs. Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills Experience with Ellucian Advance System Experience working with wealth screening data Experience with ADVIZOR software or other data visualization tools Experience at an institution of higher learning or non-profit organization Comprehensive fundraising campaign experience Prospect research experience for a large complex organization Experience with data analysis Experience with fundraising databases Experience performing research, and working with confidential donor and prospect records Experience with principles and practices of professional fundraising in higher education or non-profit Paralegal training/experience or information science training/experience Excel experience/training, including familiarity with formulas and pivot tables Experience with online research Experience developing, implementing, and carrying projects through to completion
