CARA President's Summer MessageI hope you all are enjoying summer in the Golden State. I can't think of a state that has more outdoor activities and natural beauty to enjoy in summer. Therefore, I thought it would be fun to poll our CARA Membership to find out where your favorite California Summer Spot is and why it's special for you. Just email me at the address at the bottom, and I'll recap your favorite summer places in the next CARAConnect. Speaking of summer fun, CARA and APRA have teamed up to offer you the best educational fun you'll get all summer at the APRA International Conference in Anaheim. Click on the APRA link to find out about the conference and how you can get a discount through CARA. Also, please join us at the CARA reception at the Conference on Wednesday night, July 21. Also, I hear that there are several other great entertainment venues in Anaheim to enjoy while you're attending the conference. This summer CARA will also be offering other small programs—virtual seminars and brown bag lunches designed for our members throughout the state. Check the CARA website for more information about these programs. As summer turns to fall, CARA's Conference Day will be featured at the Los Angeles Zoo in Southern California and the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. These are all-day educational programs offering two tracks of valuable education seminars and outstanding networking opportunities. You should have already received a Save the Date email about these outstanding events highlighting our keynote speaker David Lawson, who'll be speaking on Your Future: Adapt? Ignore? Adopt? I hope you'll be able to join us in late October. I know that the stress of cut-backs and layoffs have affected many of our members this past year, making it harder to enjoy all that California has to offer, but realize that there are a group of colleagues who understand what you're going through and who stand ready to provide support and advice: your colleagues at CARA. If you're not a current CARA member, we're offering a one-time, half-priced membership ($40) for all those who sign-up in the next few of weeks. This will allow you get the CARA discount for all of the programs mentioned above, plus access to past CARA presentations in the members-only section of our website, plus the issues of 221-B Baker Street for the rest of 2010.
