Development Specialist

Salary range:   n/a

Job Summary:

This position will manage the Wikimedia Foundation's open-source donor 

database and oversee all development-related donor and prospect research 

and tracking. This is a critical role: 96% of the Foundation’s revenue

is derived from donations.

Job Duties:

1) Drive the optimization of the Wikimedia Foundation's donor

database, including increasing user-friendliness and automation of tasks; 



2) Manage the database from a user (non-technical) perspective;



3) Craft and maintain an array of internal materials including

prospect research files, etc.; 



4) Help craft and maintain an array of support materials aimed at

donors and potential donors; 



5) Create tax receipts and automated thanks; 



6) Support the optimization of the Wikimedia Foundation's online

donation pages in order to increase donations; 



7) Support the development of other donation streams, such as

corporate matching programs, donations-by-Facebook, donations-by-SMS,

etc. 

Job Requirements:

1) Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; advanced degree preferred 

7+ years of fundraising experience, ideally with a large high-profile 

international organization 



2) Experience managing databases from a user (non-technical) perspective 



3) Good general understanding of donation streams including emerging

trends 



4) Excellent writing skills particularly including the ability to

explain and summarize 



5) Ability to evaluate, analyze and prioritize; self-motivated and

independent 



6) Good technical literacy from a user perspective: comfortable using

various tools such as wikis, mailing lists and blogging software



7) Experience with web-based research tools such as the Foundation

Directory Online and Lexis-Nexis for Development Professionals 



8) Experience using CiviCRM open-source donor management software is a 

major plus



9) The ability to speak multiple languages is a major plus



10) Experience living or working outside the United States is a major

plus.
