Director of Prospect Research

Job Summary:

Loyola Marymount University is seeking a Director of Prospect 

Research.  Reporting to the Associate Vice President of University 

Relations, the Director of Prospect Research performs & manages 

research to systematically identify & rate new prospects & develop 

possible cultivation & solicitation strategies.

main 150 acre campus is located in West Los Angeles and supports 7 

colleges/schools, 20 resident buildings, and is the site of the 

William H. Hannon Library (under construction).  Enrollment includes 

5,746 undergraduate and 1,899 graduate students and we employ more 

than 2,200 faculty and staff.   Loyola Marymount University

We seek candidates who are -



•	Leaders – visionary in maximizing the use of data results in 

fundraising efforts; i.e., identification, cultivation, solicitation 

and stewardship.



•	Experienced managers - experience in leading a staff of 

researchers to analyze, plan and implement research methods, 

techniques and procedures.



•	Expert – demonstrated knowledge in conducting analytical 

research, preparing reports in support of various fundraising and 

marketing initiatives. 



•	Communicators – exemplary verbal and written skills and 

ability to build relationships that will foster respect, trust and 

confidence. 



Job Requirements:

Typically a Bachelor’s degree.  Masters degree preferred.  Five to 

eight years experience in prospect research (Higher Education 

setting preferred).  Two to five years experience in managing a 

prospect research operation.  Experience working in a capital 

campaign is desirable.  Must have a demonstrated ability to work 

independently & as a self starter in a team-oriented environment, 

work congenially with staff, senior development management, & 

fundraisers.  Exemplary organizational and customer service skills. 

Extensive computer experience required, including database knowledge 

(Banner, Kintera/P!N, Lexis-Nexis experience preferred), document 

imaging, internet search skills, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
