General Summary: The Director of Fund Development will develop a comprehensive fund development plan, coordinate and assure the implementation of strategies to build sustainable sources of revenue and to gain support from targeted constituencies and the general public. In addition, the Director of Fund Development will supervise and evaluate the Fund Development staff. Job Duties: Tasks/Major Responsibilities: •Work with the Board in developing and achieving annual and long range financial goals through the creation and support of fundraising programs. •Direct development activities and supervise development staff. •Identify, cultivate and solicit gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, the public sector, and other sources that will provide a network of resources for LAUP in the long term. •Responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing all fundraising campaigns, major giving, planned giving, foundation relations and special events funding. •Coordinate, develop and implement strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospects (current and planned gifts). •Develop and manage and staff fundraising committees of the LAUP Board or other volunteers to achieve successful fundraising goals. •Oversee the daily operations of the department including donor research, gift processing, donor data base maintenance, and department budget. •Develop, implement and report on the annual and long term fundraising plan with dollar goals, objectives, and strategies for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major individual gifts, foundation grants and corporate gifts in conjunction with the VP Advancement & Public Affairs and the Finance Committee. •Coordinate public funding solicitations with the Director of Government Affairs and Policy to ensure overall fundraising goals and targets are being met. •Responsible for all organizational fundraising communications, including messages delivered through programmatic means. •Work with VP and other Fund Development team members to develop fundraising ideas. •Manage fund development consultants. •Other duties as assigned Skills for Tasks/Major Responsibilities: •Able to design, direct, and implement a coordinated Fund Development Plan. •Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community. •Effective networking and relationship building skills •Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups. •Able to lead and motivate groups and individuals. •Able to organize and direct events ranging from small dinners and one-on-one meetings to major fundraising events and the publicity that accompanies them. Critical Success Factors: •Exceptional organizational and administrative skills; •He/She must have the ability to garner the respect and trust of the Executive Management team and the finance committee of the Board. •The ability to think strategically, plan, set goals and objectives and then organize and follow through. Additional Skills: •Excellent verbal and written communication skills. •The director must be highly motivated and able to work independently. •He/She must be self-confident and adaptable and able to work with a variety of essential stakeholders. •He/She must have strong computer skills including experience with Raiser’s Edge and/or other development software; verifiable competent data base management experience. •A strong network of local development contacts and resources is desirable. Formal Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s in a field related to development is preferred. Participation in the Association of Fundraising Professionals preferred.
