Job PostingCARE USA DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT Salary range: CompetitiveJob Summary: CARE is seeking a Director of Development who has solid experience developing relationships with high net worth individuals preferably in the Northern California market. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced and exceptional entrepreneurial fundraiser. S/he will be responsible for raising five, six, seven and eight figure gifts for CARE's programs around the world, primarily from individuals. S/He will work collaboratively with a small team in the San Francisco Office to develop strategies to involve and build relationships with high level donors and prospects. The candidate selected will concentrate on identifying, cultivating and soliciting new prospects, as well as, upgrading high- level gifts, annuities and complex gifts. Job Duties: We are looking for a seasoned, independent and motivated self- starter to join the Northern California team as the team focuses strategically on securing major gifts and cultivating high level donors, with a goal of bringing CARE's Northern California fundraising to a new level. The Director of Development will be responsible for cultivating a portfolio of some existing major donors, lower level donors with major gift potential, as well as developing and implementing strategies that lead to the identification and cultivation of new prospects to maximize the gift potential of a personal portfolio of 100-200 donors. The Director of Development is responsible for raising $500,000 - $2,000,000 annually for CARE from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other organizations. The position is based in San Francisco and will report to CARE's Senior Director of Development. The incumbent will travel locally to visit donors and prospects in Northern California (approximately 30% of the time and travel occasionally, nationally or internationally. Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or Graduate degree in international relations or related arena. CFRE licensed preferred. Study/certification in planned giving instruments. 5+ year’s major gift fundraising experience, including a proven record of successful solicitation of major outright and planned gifts. Ability to develop multi-year donor cultivation plans without supervisory input Ability to strategize, submit and close 5 & 6 figure gifts. Ability to communicate skillfully and persuasively- both orally and in written form. Strong body of knowledge in outright and planned gifts. At least one year of work experience a) of a kind that requires many of the same skills (sales, new market development) or b) of overseas field work for CARE or similar humanitarian organization may be substituted for a part of the above fundraising experience requirement.
