Dear Colleagues,
Happy New Year!
This year, 2008, will be very special to
CARA members as it will mark our 15th anniversary!
We’re so excited to reach this milestone and have so many new
things in progress to benefit our members!
As some of you may already know, CARA’s
former administrator, Rebecca Benard, has resigned to pursue a
career in development. As such, CARA has contracted with a new
association management company, The Droz Group. We are
experiencing a few transitional glitches as we embark on a major
database conversion, web site host transition and upgrade, and
general policy and operations review. Please be patient with us
as we work towards better records management, online
registration forms with the ability to accept credit cards, and
much, much more.
We are in the planning stages for upcoming
regional Seminar Days as well as the Annual CARA Conference.
Our Basic Training Workshop is being offered again this year and
will be taught by Michael Quevli, a former CARA board member and
Solutions Strategist, Prospect Management & Identification with
Kintera, Inc. The first training will be held in Southern
California at the UC Irvine University Club in Irvine on
February 22, the second in Northern California at the UC
Berkeley Extension Offices in San Francisco on April 18, and the
last one will be held in conjunction with the Annual CARA
Conference on October 23-24 in Southern California at the Crown
Plaza Irvine. Scholarships are being offered for both the Basic
Training Workshops and the Annual CARA Conference. Check the
web site for details to be posted.
Please join me in welcoming our newest
board members: Sandra Campero, Dori Cavala, and Gary Lance, who
hold the Volunteer Chair, Membership Chair, and Treasurer
positions, respectively. I would like to also thank Marah Katz
for her great work as the Regional Chair for Northern
California. She resigned in December and has started a new
position as the Assistant Director of Development, Annual Giving
at the Stanford Law School.
CARA is always looking for good
volunteers. It’s one of the best ways to meet your peers and
expand your network. Take the opportunity to get involved! Why
not work closely with a CARA Board member, make a presentation,
write a piece for the newsletter, or help out at a Seminar Day?
Make those connections that will last your career.
