Every successful journalist has a toolbox of sources, techniques and
strategies for gathering and presenting information. Find out how
many of these methods can be adapted to enhance your prospect research.
A former reporter, Shirley will talk about the similarities
between journalism and prospect
research and present practical tips and resources you can use in your own
position.

Entertainment Industry

Have you wondered how to find prospects in the entertainment industry? Or
wondered if its even worth it? There are many reasons for organizations
to use celebrities and executives in the entertainment industry, whether as a
spokesperson for an upcoming campaign, or simply for their big pockets. Find
out why now more than ever the entertainment industry is ready to get
involved with non-profits, and what you need to know to be prepared.

Who can you call when you need advice on grantseeking? Where can you find the resource
directories you need, but can’t afford? Los Angeles’ Center for Nonprofit
Management is a treasure trove for the small and not so small nonprofit
organization.
Snow Tempest and Marcia Schmitz will tell us what they’re working on and what the
Center has available.

3:00-3:30 P.M. Tour of KCET (Details to be announced.)
Mentor Program: Sign up to be mentored by a seasoned researcher throughout
the seminar day. This is an excellent opportunity for newly-hired or beginning
researchers to meet and interact with more seasoned research professionals who
can answer your specific questions or help you to understand the various topics
being presented throughout the day. For those of you who have been in the
research profession for a number of years, this is your opportunity to get
involved with CARA by serving as a mentor.

- From the Golden State (5) Freeway: exit on Los Feliz Boulevard. Take Los Feliz Boulevard west to
Hillhurst. Turn left on Hillhurst and proceed to Sunset Boulevard. Turn left on
Sunset. KCET is one block on the left directly across from Circuit City. Turn
left into the driveway.
- From the Hollywood (101) Freeway:
exit on Vermont. Take Vermont north (toward the mountains) to Sunset Boulevard. Turn right onto Sunset. Follow Sunset past
Hillhurst/Virgil Streets. KCET will be on the left opposite Circuit City. Turn
left into the driveway.
- Parking is free.
